Sharing knowledge
A highlight of 2010 was a conference on the future of banking
that we organized as part of FMO's 40th anniversary celebrations.
Hosted by our Financial Institutions department, it brought
together 200 clients from around the world to network, exchange
views and share knowledge. A keynote speaker was Princess Maxima of
the Netherlands, in her capacity as the UN Secretary General's
Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.
The conference included a workshop on corporate governance for
non-executive directors that we nominate to the boards of our
Financial Institutions clients. It is a precondition of our
extending a loan that the client appoints two external directors to
its board. Every year, FMO provides a training day on corporate
governance for these 20-25 directors.
